Reconnecting with hobbies in the post-COVID era proved to be a meaningful and therapeutic experience for many of us. As we engaged in conversations about the interests and pastimes we had rediscovered during the pandemic, several common themes and shared experiences emerged.

Gardening became a popular choice among my friends. Some of us started with small indoor plants and later expanded our horizons to create outdoor gardens. The process of nurturing plants, watching them grow, and sometimes even harvesting our own food brought immense satisfaction. We exchanged gardening tips, discussed the meditative nature of tending to plants, and shared photographs of our flourishing green spaces. For many, gardening became a way to connect with nature and find solace amid the uncertainty of the times.

Another creative outlet that many of us explored was painting, drawing, or crafting. Several individuals who had never considered themselves artists found that artistic expression was not only therapeutic but also a fantastic way to pass the time. We shared ideas, discussed different techniques, and occasionally held virtual art sessions where we painted together over video calls.

Learning to play musical instruments was yet another hobby that a few of us delved into. Whether it was dusting off an old guitar or starting from scratch with a keyboard, we found that creating music offered a sense of accomplishment and relaxation. We swapped progress updates, discussed our favorite songs and genres, and even organized virtual jam sessions to make music together, even if we were physically apart.

For those with a culinary inclination, the kitchen became a hub of experimentation and creativity. We enthusiastically shared recipes, celebrated culinary triumphs, and laughed over epic kitchen fails. Cooking and baking served as a way to bond over our shared love for food and offered comfort through the act of preparing and enjoying delicious meals.

Books became a refuge for some, as we indulged in reading titles we had always wanted to but never found the time for. We exchanged literary recommendations, delved into discussions about the impact of literature on our lives, and even discovered a few of our friends exploring the art of writing, sharing their short stories, poems, or personal essays with the group.

Home improvement and DIY projects also gained popularity among us. From repainting rooms to crafting furniture, we shared our progress, discussed the challenges we faced, and celebrated the sense of accomplishment that came with completing these projects.

Reconnecting with hobbies not only provided a sense of purpose and a means of self-expression but also deepened our friendships. As we shared our creative endeavors, offered support, and witnessed each other's growth in these new or rekindled passions, our bonds grew stronger. These hobbies gave us a sense of control and satisfaction in our lives, offering a comforting anchor amidst the constantly changing external circumstances.
